The Tomfoolery Show was an animated series produced by Rankin/Bass. It aired on NBC in 1970.
The series featured the Enthusiastic Elephant, the Fizzgiggious Fish, the Scroobious Snake, the Yongy-Bonghy-Bo, and the Umbrageous Umbrella Maker, all of whom originated in poems by Edward Lear, Lewis Carroll, Odgen Nash, and Gellett Burgess. Another recurring character was a living Tic Tac Toe board. There were also many minor characters.
The series was full of nonsense poems, sight gags, and unconventional recipes. Unfortunately, the show's humor may have led to its downfall, as it was cancelled after one season, and NBC never ordered another animated series from Rankin/Bass, although it did continue to air Christmas and Easter specials produced by the studio until the end of the 1970's.
